A school’s brand is built by its students

ST PETER’S WOODLANDS BRANDING

St Peter’s Woodlands wanted to refresh their branding in order to present themselves as a modern, welcoming and inclusive institution. It’s a place where kids can be kids, and the joy of learning is nurtured at every step.

Fusion’s solution was to rebrand the school with the name that parents in the community were already using colloquially: SPW. The traditional shield and colours were retained, but they are now complemented by bright colour and bold, aspirational statements.

We incorporated the SPW community into the branding, building out a custom display typography that featured contributions from every single student. The resulting typeface had 29 alternate characters for each letter and punctuation mark, resulting in a colourful mish-mash of styles that injected child-like enthusiasm into every brand touchpoint.

As lead designer on this job, my role was to create and implement the overall visual style, including art direction of photo shoots and the creation of SPW’s custom typeface (with the help of over a thousand student co-designers).

This project was awarded an AADC Award for Typography.
